Professional Profile

I obtained my degree in Medicine and Surgery of the University of Athens in 1985. I completed my basic surgical training in Oxford and my higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery within the Oxford Postgraduate Training Programme based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. After completing my training in 1995 I was appointed for a year at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada, where I obtained my Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics. I then returned to Oxford and was appointed to my present post as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in December 1996.

Special Medical Interests and Publications

I have obtained the MSc degree of the University of Oxford and the PhD degree of the University of Athens. Both my degrees are based on research in the field of spinal deformities. I have published several articles and book chapters in subjects relevant to trauma and orthopaedics. I maintain a regular involvement in research, being the holder of several major grants and supervising PhD students for the University of Oxford.

My Children’s Practice includes congenital and acquired conditions affecting bones and joints, such as congenital hip dislocation, foot deformities, neuromuscular disorders, including cerebral palsy, and rare genetic conditions, such as osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease). I run one of the busiest multi-disciplinary cerebral palsy services nationwide and am an expert in the field of gait analysis. I am Lead Clinician for paediatric orthopaedic oncology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

My Adult Orthopaedic Practice includes foot and ankle disorders, musculoskeletal tumours and hip pathologies. I also have an interest in the orthopaedic manifestations of adult neurological conditions, such as head injury, stroke and multiple sclerosis. My clinical practice is largely based on tertiary referrals of complex orthopaedic conditions.
