Clinical Interests

Management of patients who have previously has difficulties with maintaining a patent airway under general anaesthesia. I have anaesthetised patients with tumours in the oral cavity for 10 years, and have developed a wide range of techniques to manage these sort of situations. This allows me to be well prepared for dealing with a range of patients who for other reasons may develop a compromised airway when anaesthetised. I have designed and run many courses and workshops locally and nationally to train other anaesthetists in these advanced techniques.

Personal Profile

I was an undergraduate in Glasgow University and did my early training in the West of Scotland, and laterally in Oxford. I was appointed a Consultant in 2000 in Oxford. Since my appointment my main professional interests have been in education - supporting junior doctors in all specialities as a Foundation Programme Director, and training anaesthetists, intensivists and emergency physicians as well as medical students to improve their skills at managing patients airways. I anaesthetise in the NHS and private sector for orthopaedic specialities undergoing hip, shoulder, knee, hand and spinal surgery.
