Mr Duncan Whitwell is also a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust, Oxford where he undertakes NHS clinics in Oxford, Bristol and Abingdon. He graduated from Nottingham University and trained in Bristol, Oxford and Brisbane, Australia before taking up his Consultant appointment in Oxford in 2005. He specialises in the surgical treatment of hip and knee problems including arthroscopy, primary and revision joint arthroplasty surgery.

Mr Whitwell is also a lead Consultant in the Oxford Bone and Soft Tissue Service (Oxford Sarcoma) where he specialises in treatment and reconstruction for patients with bone and soft tissue cancer.

He regularly lectures on hip and knee surgery at international meetings and is a European surgical demonstrator on hip and knee arthroplasty. He has been awarded the prestigious ABC travelling fellowship to visit the US and Canada in 2012.

Mr Whitwell’s research interests are in implant design, the young patient with hip disease and the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas and of metastatic bone disease. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and is a convenor of local undergraduate, national and international postgraduate educational programmes.
