Professional Profile

Andrew Wainwright obtained his Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Molecular Biology at Leicester University, where he subsequently was awarded Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degrees. His Basic surgical training was in Leicester, Nottingham, and Bristol, and Higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics was within the Oxford Postgraduate Training Programme.

He was appointed to a clinical fellowship for a year at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. After receiving the certificate of specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics he returned to Oxford to a clinical fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

In 2003 he was European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society Travelling Fellow and visited several centres of expertise in the United States and then was appointed as consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Oxford. Andrew has a strong interest in teaching, and research; he has been a tutor to medical students at Leicester, Nottingham, Bristol and Oxford Universities and runs the postgraduate teaching programme in the Oxford region. Andrew has published several research articles and book chapters in subjects relevant to adult and children’s Trauma and Orthopaedics and presented research work locally, nationally and internationally.
